Brief Discontinued

Unfortunately I have got to the stage where I have decided to discontinue the brief. After A lot of time spent thinking of a unique way to crete a way finding that would remain clear I came to the realisation that anything I chose to do would not be that unique in its appearance.

Throughout out me research for this brief I found little that inspired me to create a waydinding system and if im completely honest I found it to be a little dull.

The context that I did manage to find leads me to believe that the only that massively changed in way-finding is the environment the system is in. Stand alone, they all pretty much look the same.

End Of Brief Evaluation

This brief enabled me to explore different types of design within a field that was interesting for me to research. The brief ultimately saw me focus in on two main disciplines, type and image.

This started off as a relationship between the 2 and how they could work together on the same page or cover. This did not go particularly well and the designs that I created for the books became crowded and they ended up not looking like designs for book covers.

After some thinking I decided to change the approach and decided to design 2 editions of the book covers, one type and one image. This worked better and the deigns I created became appropriate for the format they were being placed onto.
the brief saw me work on bespoke typeface design to communicate messages. Some of the type was illustrative, using typefaces as a foundation for art work and this wold be the only thing I would change in the brief. Although I am happy with the designs I would have liked to create an edition set which specifically delt with the manipulations of the actual typeface.

End Of Brief Evaluation

The rebranding of the Jack Spratt identity went better than I had expected. Through out the brief I managed to create a strong brand for the company which utilised art deco design inspiration and a monochromatic tonal system in the design.

This brief led me on an exploration of how logo works over different formats and how to make a set using these different formats. This ultimately became the challenge for the brief and is something that I achieved well.

I would have however liked to have mocked more designs up for different items that could have been linked to the business, but due to poor time management these were not completed.

End Of Brief Evaluation

This brief enabled me to work along side another graphic designer for a part of it. This worked out well as i enabled me to showcase my work in a publication.

The information graphics that I produced for this were very different from each other, the first being a primarily illustrative one that focused in on some key points about actors and directors from the research i had conducted.

The 2nd was a lot more technical in terms of its design. I am very proud of the information graphic which also led me to create a publication using acetate to break up the information. Although a few mistakes were made in the compiling of the publication I still feel that the book had a very professional feel to it.

I would have liked to completed an info-graphic which represented the box office and revenue statistics but unfortunately i did not have time to resolve it.

End Of Brief Evaluation

This brief has seen me cover a wide and fairly vast spectrum of elektronic music. The research that went into this brief was some of the most interesting research I have ever done for a brief as i really enjoyed the subject.

Through this research my eyes have been opened to the just how far back the roots of electronic music went and how vast and expansive it has become over the years.
It is interesting to note as to how long experimentations into the synthesis of sound have being going on for and how developed they have become.

In terms of design for the brief I am proud of the deliverables I achieved in creating. The series of prints work fantastic as a set and I am proud of the the contemporary style I was able to achieve across all nine. This core content for the brief also enables be to spread into the world of music merchandising and events promotion and I was able to tie them together quit easily.

I would have however been more organised so that the festival and event could have been expanded on further as the brand had grown to become quite strong and flexible.

A publicised version of the posters would have also been great to produce as well as a poster that combines all the narrative diagrams of the nine posters.

This brief has been exciting to research and produce although more time organising what I could produce in the time available would have given the project more depth.

Combining Arrows

Combining different arrows

Digital Wayfinding Navigation Lines

These are some of the arrow designs that have been mocked up around the college.
They work fairly well and i think the monochrome colour scheme i something that is working

These are the digital way-finding arrows that have been completed for each course.

each of them all display a unique point about that particular course and I have tried to design these arrows so that they can be easily linked to the course and are distinguishable from the others.

For Example the photography arrow and furniture arrow should be pretty obvious.

Wayfinding Sketches For Each Course

No Colour

During a recent tutorial it was suggested that stepping back from colour may help me create a more original way-finding system for the college.

Usual way-finding, based on my contextual research heavily relies on colour to navigate people around.

What if that someone was colourblind?

I myself am colour blind and the concept of making a system that does not rely on colour intrigues me.
